In addition to the School’s equity officer, the dean of the School of Public Policy will charge each faculty search committee. As part of the charge, the dean will make sure that all members of the committee understand the School’s commitment to having a diverse and inclusive faculty and that producing a diverse pool of candidates is a must and should be normed within the School.
One member of every faculty search committee will be appointed by the dean to serve as the committee’s diversity officer (DO). This could be the committee chair. The primary role of this person would be to hold the committee accountable to producing a diverse pool of candidates throughout the entire search and selection process. They would ensure that:
Position descriptions are marketed such that they reach a diverse market.
Each committee member reaches within, and outside of, their personal networks in an effort to recruit a diverse pool of candidates. The DO will report these outreach efforts to the dean.
Diversity reports are generated and reviewed by the dean before phone interviews are conducted.
The DO will solicit this information from the appropriate University departments.
If it is determined by the committee that the pool is not sufficiently diverse and inclusive, the committee can decide to engage in additional outreach efforts.
Diversity reports are generated and submitted to the dean before candidates come to campus for interviews.
If it is determined by the dean that the pool is not sufficiently diverse and inclusive, the dean in consultation with the full committee will decide what additional efforts need to be made by the School.
