ONLINE APPLICATION
The University of Maryland has an online application process. To begin your application, please visit http://www.vprgs.umd.edu/gems/admissions.htm . If you wish to submit a paper application, please download the required application booklet at http://www.gradschool.umd.edu/gss/forms/2006_Application_Booklet.pdf. If you submit a paper application, you must send it to Enrollment Services Office Operations Graduate Admissions, Mitchell Building, Box G, College Park, MD 20742. Note: Each program has a specific four letter code. Please be sure to enter the correct code for your desired program.
SUPPORTING MATERIALS
All supporting materials should be sent to Enrollment Services Office Operations Graduate Admissions, Mitchell Building, Box G, College Park, MD 20742. To expedite the review of your application you may send copies of your supporting credentials to the Maryland School of Public Policy, University of Maryland, 2101 Van Munching Hall, College Park, MD 20742. Supporting documents include:
MPP, MEPP, MPP/MBA, MPP/JD, Ph.D.
- Transcripts from all educational institutions you have attended.
- Original GRE scores if you are applying to the MPP, MPM, or Ph.D. program. GMAT or LSAT scores are acceptable if you are applying to the joint MPP/MBA or MPP/JD programs
- Three (3) sealed letters of recommendation (at least two, but preferably three, should be academic recommendations.) Please visit http://www.gradschool.umd.edu/gss/forms/recform.pdf for the required recommendation cover sheets.
- Statement of Purpose (if not included in online application)
- Resume (optional, but strongly encouraged)
- Writing Sample (Ph.D. applicants only)
MPM (Executive Master of Public Management)
- Same as MPP except:
- If your undergraduate GPA is above 3.0, GRE scores are not required.
- Resume required
BA/MPP
You must apply twice to the BA/MPP program, once as an undergraduate with at least 60 credits and once as an MPP applicant. The following steps are necessary to complete the first stage:
- Application (available at 2101 Van Munching Hall or in 3410 Tydings Hall)
- Statement of Purpose
- Three (3) letters of recommendation from faculty
- Latest UMD transcript
- SAT scores (GRE required if SAT score below 1275)
- Audit from BSOS
- Resume (optional)

- Preferred Fall: December 15 (for financial aid consideration)
- International: February 1
- Final: April 1
- BA/MPP: July 1
- MPM: April 15
SPRING DEADLINES
- International: June 1
- U.S: October 15
- BA/MPP: December 1

JOINT PROGRAMS
If you are applying to one of our joint programs, please make sure to properly indicate the program code and submit your supporting materials to both the Enrollment Services Office AND the other department to which you are applying.
- MPP/MBA Program: If you are applying to our joint MPP/MBA program, you only need to submit one application. You can access the application at http://www.smith.umd.edu/apply.html. You must submit your supporting credentials to both the Robert H. Smith School of Business and the Enrollment Services Office.
- BA/MPP Program: If you are applying to the BA/MPP program, you will need to submit two applications, one at the BA level and another at the MPP level. For the application at the BA level, please come to 2101 Van Munching Hall for an application form. For the MPP level, please follow the steps above using the MAPO code.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International students should also visit www.umd.edu/ies for necessary forms that you must fill out before starting your graduate career here at the University of Maryland. Again, all international students must provide proof of financial support.
