Executive Director, Food Recovery Network


Ben Simon is the founder and executive director of Food Recovery Network, an organization that unites students at colleges and universities to fight food waste and hunger by recovering surplus perishable food from their campuses and surrounding communities and donating it to people in need.  Ben founded the Food Recovery Network while a student at the University of Maryland and was the first winner of the Do Good Challenge in 2012.  Since winning the challenge, the Food Recovery Network has become an official nonprofit, expanded from three to 19 campuses, recovered over 140,000 pounds of food and donated it to shelters, and just received a $150,000 grant.  Ben was recently recognized by ABC News and Univision as one of their Top 10 Social Entrepreneurs of 2012.
