Juan Segundo Bellocq

Legal Officer, TrustLaw Connect service, Thomson Reuters Foundation

After graduation, Juan started a position at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the charitable arm of the world’s leading provider of news and information committed to empowering people around the world with trusted information and free legal assistance. Juan will be working as a Legal Officer for its TrustLaw Connect service, the largest global pro bono marketplace linking the best NGOs and social enterprises in the world with the best law firms and legal teams of major corporations.

Since 2010, Fundacion Microjusticia Argentina has been recruiting and coordinating volunteer young lawyers to legally advise disenfranchised citizens in peri-urban villas miserias (slums) of Buenos Aires City, improving the settlers’ ability to take charge of their own affairs and learn, understand and demand their basic rights.  As a cofounder of the organization, Juan was the first ad honorem manager until he was granted a Fulbright scholarship to study at the University of Maryland. Once in the US, Juan decided to start fundraising for Microjusticia, participating in pitch competitions such as The No Limits and the Do Good Challenge.  Microjusticia won second place at the 2013 No Limits Social Impact Business Competition and won first prize in the 2013 Do Good Challenge.
