Current SPP Student Uses Passion to Impact Local Government at Summer Internship

Stephen Rabent, current student at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy arranged his internship with the City of Takoma Park’s Public Works Department through the Maryland Municipal League’s Fellowship Program. On top of having an internship related to his career goals, Rabent also benefitted from having his internship funded by the School of Public Policy Internship Program.

Current Student Laura Checovich Uses Knowledge of Education Policy at SPP-Funded Summer Internship

As an intern in the Policy and Program Studies Service office within the U.S. Department of Education, current University of Maryland School of Public Policy student Laura Checovich is getting to learn first-hand about education policymaking. Her internship is being funded by the SPP Internship Program. Each semester, the SPP Internship Program provides compensation to full-time graduate students for unpaid internships.

Current Student Pursues Degree to Further Her Career with the U.S. Air Force

Each student has their own reasons for deciding to pursue a degree in public policy. University of Maryland School of Public Policy student Kate Kanetzky chose to study public policy at SPP to become a better officer in the U.S. Air Force.

“When I joined the Air Force, it instilled in me a sense of service, which is also a major foundational characteristic of public servants as well,” Kanetzky says. “I was drawn to the opportunity to learn how one serves better and more efficiently.”

Through her work as a University of Maryland School of Public Policy Rawlings Leadership Undergraduate Fellow and a finalist in the School of Public Policy’s 2014 Do Good Challenge, current student Holly Cuozzo learned how to work with others to create social change.
